Project Background

GoVoluntouring was created to provide volunteering and applied learning program opportunities to volunteers around the world. Through its online portal, it provides a common platform for organizations to showcase unique volunteering opportunities at different global destinations. Volunteers can find and select projects in different corners of the world, then fundraise through the site to finance their trip.

Nirvana Canada built and launched the initial phase of GoVoluntouring in 2010. It was huge success and the website has been extensively covered in print and electronic media as well.

After the overwhelming response to the first phase, global travel agency, Flight Centre, went on to acquire GoVoluntouring. Today, the website is one of the responsible travel divisions of Flight Centre.

Based on the success of GoVoluntouring, we then went on to design and develop the second phase of the website, a sister site called, “Holidays for Humanity”. It is also a major success. The website brings in volunteers, learners and overseas teachers to one common online community.

Challenges

We took on the challenge to create a clear and effective website that would attract volunteers from across the globe to find the best volunteering opportunities on one convenient platform. Our powerful and efficient fundraising tool has been instrumental in helping people bring more value to their travel experience, while making an immense contribution and enriching themselves at the same time.

The comprehensive information provided for each travel/volunteer destination offers details about diverse matters, such as safety, electrical standards, emergency numbers and so on, ensuring that travelers are well-informed and are safe and comfortable throughout the journey.

Technology & Brand Promotion

This successful website has been built on Drupal, one of the best CMS in the world.We created a user-friendly portal for multiple users; organizations posting volunteer travel opportunities, and volunteers selecting destinations, creatingpersonal profiles and fundraising for their travels. We also created a custom search function with mapping for users to find travel opportunities by location, as well as other relevant factors.

We made strong use of social media sites, developed brand building and marketing strategies through careful competitor analysis, posted important blog entries, targeted existing and potential customers, uploaded and marketed videos, along with interesting and relevant content, Google alerts, and more. We made a splashy entry into Facebook with GoVoluntouring quickly accumulating followers, now surpassing the 34,000 mark and growing steadily.

Results

GoVoluntouring has been a resounding success and the site continues to grow in page views and users. Along with Holidays for Humanity, it has become the destination for travelers wanting to make their vacations more meaningful. Our user-friendly, attractive and functional site design, aggressive marketing blitz and ongoing promotion have made GoVoluntouring’s revolutionary travel concept an enormously successful player in the travel industry.
